Get your hands dirty searching for real fossils! When the ocean that once covered much of North America dried up, it left behind the remains of sea life. Over time, most of the material became phosphate particles. This is mined for use as a very important ingredient in plant food. Some of the ancient remains were too hard to break down so became fossils. At Nutrien’s Fossil Find, participants are invited to sift through phosphil, a gravel-like material produced during phosphate mining, to search for these fossils. This exhibit is a big attraction at the Children’s Festival each year.

Plongez-vous dans la recherche de véritables fossiles ! Quand l’océan qui couvrait autrefois la majorité de l’Amérique du Nord a asséché, il a laissé derrière eux les restes de la vie marine. Au fil du temps, la majorité de la matière est devenue les particules de phosphate. Ceci est extrait pour être utilisé comme un ingrédient important de la nourriture des plantes. Certains restes anciens ont été trop durs pour se décomposer, et sont devenus des fossiles. À Nutrien’s Fossil Find, les participants sont invités à trier le phosphil, un matériel semblable au gravier produit pendant l’extrait du phosphate, pour chercher ces fossiles. Cette exhibition est un attrait grand du festival chaque année.
